A Cottage-Style 4th of July

What is a cottage-style 4th of July? To me, it's a homespun family-and-friends gathering, no matter how big or small. It's a celebration with simple pleasures and comforts...good company, fun games, delicious food, and lots of iced tea and lemonade! I found some photos at CountryLiving.com that capture the feeling of this patriotic holiday so well...

I thought this was a great idea for a festive 4th of July table setting–use a vintage (or new) white tablecloth and cover it with a colorful piece of fabric! Red and white stripes are perfect for the 4th, and you can use other patterns and colors for other holidays and seasons.

A vintage wagon with a bucket or two of ice is a unique way to bring bottles of soda, water, and tea to guests. It's great when you can use vintage items like this in your entertaining!

Of course, you'll need homemade pie at your 4th of July celebration...here are two delicious-looking recipes I found, also at Country Living...

Fresh Berry Pie, shown above, with strawberries, raspberries, and a crumb topping...

...and Blueberry Pie with a star-shaped cut-out center.

If you're having an indoor celebration instead of outdoor, here's a patriotic way you can welcome guests into your home...

...a flag proudly displayed on your front door!

What's your favorite way of celebrating the 4th? Have a safe and happy holiday!
