Light and Bright: Updated Cottage Style

Update the look of your cottage rooms in a fresh, creative way by adding simple touches of color and pattern! You'll be surprised to see how easy it is to mix vintage treasures with contemporary accents to come up with your own unique style. Here are some examples...

A FUN PLAY ON PATTERNS–Bright, colorful prints update a traditional cottage-style bed. The colors really pop against the fresh white headboard and walls! The vintage chair, painted a vivid lime green, makes a great accent piece, and the yellow-striped pitcher with daisies is the perfect finishing touch! Photo from Midwest Living.

A FRESH MIX OF OLD AND NEW–A vintage "flower pot" quilt pairs wonderfully with a contemporary striped comforter. The vintage dresser and mirror are freshened up with teal paint, and fresh flowers are always a nice addition to any room! Photo from Midwest Living.

MAKE A VIVID COLOR STATEMENT–These vivid red stools add a friendly warmth to this mostly white kitchen cottage...they just draw you into the room! Colorful red blooms add to the interest. The dishes and serving pieces in the open cabinets are nicely arranged and become an attractive part of the decor too. Photo from Midwest Living.

SIMPLE TOUCHES–Freshen up a bathroom with a rustic vintage chair and a fresh, new blue shower curtain. The striped towels and bordered rug complement the lacey stripes of the shower curtain in a nicely simple, understated way. Photo from Country Living.

Hope these photos give you some inspiration and ideas! What room or rooms in your cottage home need freshening up?
